Y’ALL!!! Before reading take a look at this picture!

If this mural looks familiar it is because it is directly from my drawing I completed in November! Haha what?! How did I get the opportunity to paint my drawing on the building of our ministry (Ocean’s Edge) facing out to a public park??

Well Oceans Edge loves to brighten up the community of Jaco with art! Jaco is a community with a lot of darkness (Prostitution, drugs, drinking, etc.). The ministry over the years has done a lot for the community including art! Mostly painting light posts in a unique style similar to my mural here.

So, on the first day of ministry last week our amazing host Hannah, who also runs the ministry, started placing people into different areas of ministry that at the time would just be around the house. When looking for some creative, artistic people I got chosen along with four other people to be apart of this team. When Hannah came to discuss what we would get to work on she said she was going to split us in to two different groups. She then began describing a project at the park next door that was/is very out of shape. She then says she had this image in her head of Jesus reaching out toward the water to grab somebody out of the water…

WHAT?! Everybody that was a part of that little discussion quickly turned their heads toward me, because most of them had known of the drawing that I did, and I am pretty sure we were just discussing it.

I got placed in charge of this project. (Below is a photo of how it started and another of the finished product.) It took some time to visualize how I could make this drawing work with the hands being above the water and our ladder only reaching so high. I also needed to find a way to create this art in a way that ties Oceans Edge art to it.

After I finished Hannah brought up the point that it looks like the hand of Jesus is coming out of the building and reaching out to the community. Such a cool way to look at it.

How cool though right?? I love being able to create art but have always wondered how that could really make any sort of impact for the kingdom. God lined up this opportunity perfectly allowing for me to utilize the gift that God has given me.

Utilize your gifts for the kingdom! The bride of Christ is made up of a lot of different people with very different characteristics and skills. Yours are unique and important! You are so valued!

He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep water. Psalm 18:16

Much Love!
